Beginners IT Course Starts January 2012

worldwide webThere are still many people out there who haven’t ventured onto the internet yet. It might be that some people don’t understand it (not many people do fully), or don’t trust it (a very valid concern).  With the right tools and techniques everyone can safely surf the web.

To help people grasp the internet and set them safely on their way, Pat Hartley-Gibson has put together a beginners guide to the internet and email. This course explains what the internet is all about and how anyone can master it.

The 6 week long, 1½ hour evening classes will be held in the Admin24 training room with a maximum of 7 students, so everyone will be able to learn at their own pace. The structured but friendly and informal classes will soon have students feeling confident enough to surf  the web by themselves and to recognise which websites to trust.

If you’re one of the many who hasn’t yet taken the step into cyberspace but would love to learn, why not join our course and see just what a wonderous place it can be?

New Admin24 website

At last, I have actually managed to get my new website up and running!  It probably needs a bit of tweaking here and there but the basics are in place and I can start adding things to it.  I looked into various different website building software programs and even thought about getting someone else to do it for me due to time constraints but in the end, I decided that a) WordPress was easy to use and very flexible and b) I am constantly changing stuff on my site and getting someone else to do it seemed like a hassle. So, please let me know your thoughts…

Basic Map Reading Course starts in the New Year!

Map Reading Course

Walking the hills safely

Britain has some of the most breath-taking scenery in the world which attracts thousands of visitors every year, many of whom unknowingly go out ill-prepared.  All too often people rely solely on GPS or mobile phones to navigate the great outdoors. This is becoming more and more prevalent.

But what if  something goes wrong?  What if  the batteries run out or there is no signal, or the electronic gadgets gets damaged, as so often happens? Would you know how to navigate safely without them? A huge number of call-outs  received by mountain rescue teams (MRT) are to help find people who are lost. Modern technology is all well and good but is not a substitute for a map, compass and basic navigation skills.

Alan Gibson, a former member of the Special Air Service (SAS),  has put together a basic map reading course for beginners which starts in January 2012.  This fun but informative course covers:

  • understanding a map
  • grid references
  • compass work
  • essential walking gear

The course will enable anyone involved in outdoor pursuits, such as walkers and cyclists,  to get back safely if something goes wrong (saving the MRT’s precious time and resources).

Bigger office for Admin24

Wow… after 6 years of working in our small, but very cosy office, we’re looking into moving to a much bigger place – and it’s gonna be great.  There are loads of new opportunities when we move and we’re going to be able to offer our clients lots of different services.  But first, we’ve got to move  We are currently waiting to get the go-ahead for the place we’ve seen so it’s a bit nerve-racking at the moment.  I don’t usually bite my nails but it could happen!  Watch this space!

I ABSOLUTELY refuse to be involved in the recession!

You know, watching the news is quite depressing most days.  It is definitely the ‘doom and gloom’ show. We are constantly being told how bad things are in the business world.  Although things are tough wouldn’t it be refreshing if instead of moaning about how bad things are, the media reported on inspiring stories.  This country is constantly being told how bad things are, how low our confidence is, how terrible our customer service is – we are all tarred with the same brush.

Well, here’s a thought.  How about REFUSING to be part of the recession?!  What do I mean by that?  Well, instead of moaning about how bad things are , how about telling people about how GOOD you are and how you can help them?  This could generate more business for everyone.  Lets get POSITIVE for a change instead of being full of woe! Let’s talk about the good things, not the bad things.  Let’s leave that to the politicians.
